I updated “Don’t Disable Form Controls” with a suggestion on what to do with submit buttons: https://adrianroselli.com/2024/02/dont-disable-form-controls.html#SubmitInstead And no, making them read-only is not it, so don’t: https://adrianroselli.com/2024/11/avoid-read-only-controls.html #HTML #accessibility #a11y #ARIA #CSS #JS #hashbrowns

With alt. Also top of page 2: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.njd.601006/gov.uscourts.njd.601006.12.0.pdf What you get when the agents & agency get incentives to detain and the detainee is sent to a private prison that gets paid to detain him. The government scamming taxpayers and counting on racism to let it go unnoticed.

Went to a show with a lot of hippies in the crowd for the first three acts and was afraid I’d have to do all the skanking for the ska final act but then the 2 tone started and skankers came out of the woodwork and I may have thrown out my hip.

I know nothing about LabX Media Group. Is my decades-old subscription to Scientific American about to bring me enshittified content instead? Anyone have experience with LabX Media Group beyond what I can find on its site? “LabX Media Group Acquires Scientific American, Expanding Global Science Media Portfolio” https://www.prweb.com/releases/labx-media-group-acquires-scientific-american-expanding-global-science-media-portfolio-302807304.html

I missed that Georgetown not only purged posts from its former provost, it also took down the entire blog. So this banger exists only in the Wayback: “Eating our Seed Corn” (about ‘AI’) https://web.archive.org/web/20240703032246/https://blog.provost.georgetown.edu/eating-our-seed-corn/ Found because I was updating a post on my site and this link was dead.

This is one way to get rid of your Real Doll overstock: “New York School District Shells Out $58K for a Robot Teaching Assistant” https://www.pcmag.com/news/a-robotic-teaching-assistant-is-heading-to-a-new-york-state-school I’m driving through Salamanca this weekend. Well, I might route around it, actually.

/me starts reading post on building an accessible modal dialog using `<dialog>`. /me comes to this sub-head about five paragraphs in. Me: “Ok then.” /me ignores remaining 2,000 words, closes tab, adds site to block list. Me: “That was a good use of everyone’s time.”

RE: https://mastodon.social/@firefoxwebdevs/116992048337520434 I appreciate this both acknowledges the error and credits the resources. Something I’d like to see more of from browsers (looks askance at Chrome). Key takeaways: • `aria-label` is code smell, • testing in only VoiceOver is always insufficient (as is testing in only one SR in general, but VO compounds it).

I’m now afraid this shit-crony will come back to Buffalo to lick his turd-crony wounds and leave poop-crony stains all over town again as he works to crony-up once more. Thanks to this case, I now know that in NY, calling someone a “crony” is non-actionable rhetorical hyperbole. Crony. https://bsky.app/profile/joshuajfriedman.com/post/3ml54ifdlrk2x

My sixth level cleric, Ned, likes to sell swag. He already has tees and stickers and notebooks: https://aardrian.threadless.com/designs/ned But now he’s handing out autographed Woodford Reserve bourbon (signed “N€D #6”). He ships it in church caravans and will use Detect Lie on you if he thinks you tattled.

[1/5] I heard about https://AccessibilityFirewall.com/, promising “No code changes. No overlay. No JavaScript.” It uses “edge” in the same way the Overlay Community Group does. Red flag emoji. So I ran it through its own “Live Remediation Engine”: https://webcraft.inc/#audit-section Hmmm… #accessibility #a11y

I was tagged into a conversation on overlays on LinkedIn (a platform I avoid) and apparently the Overlay Community Group is having its desired effect since some folks believe it will create overlay guidelines. It won’t. It’s just chaff. https://adrianroselli.com/2022/09/accessibility-at-the-edge-w3c-cg-is-an-overlay-smoke-screen.html #a11y
