1) This is a fascinating example of what an outbreak in a globalized world can look like: 149 people from 23 countries on a Dutch-flagged ship traveling from Argentina to Spain (Canary Islands) via several other places that is now in international waters off Cabo Verde...

@kakape This is an excellent example of how nations can cooperate to save lives threatened by infectious diseases.

@kakape The first I had even heard of hantavirus was the Gene Hackman and his wife tragedy. :( I particularly note your point about certain environments are more conducive to spread. Off on a tangent, it's why I'm careful in enclosed spaces with strangers and wear a mask still.

@kakape That was an absolutely fascinating read. I'm fascinated by virology and stuff like that and that was really interesting.

@kakape This is very concerning. I had thought that hantavirus was concentrated mainly in the Desert Southwest. But, on a cruise ship? And contagious? That seems to break the rules of how the virus behaves, unless it has evolved.

@kakape first I heard of Hantavirus was also the Betsy Arakawa case, if the rodents pooped in the water source for the ship would or could that be the infection centre?
