i think those tests will eventually get scrapped because they'll end up bringing unwanted attention to the fact that phenotypical sex isn't binary. the purpose is to bolster the cisbinary gender norms of only fertile and primarily white women being accepted as "true" women. but ultimately i think the tests will do the opposite, and then the gender fundamentalists won't like it anymore. their whole worldview is self-defeating and they prove it again and again every time they get their way. it's just sad that all the damage they intend to inflict on others will happen first. the world we live in sucks and they're the reason why.

for us trans people, the indirect consequences of the ban will be vast, horrifying and largely downplayed and ignored. the direct consequences are tiny. almost no trans person is directly affected. cis female athletes on the other hand... there is going to be a number of stories about them being hit by this. we're talking about tens of thousands of women who will be tested, which means that before long, there will be hundreds of cases having gotten the public's attention. and none of them will be trans. it'll take years, but ultimately it's going to hurt so many people's national pride and shake their belief in the cisbinary.

@jasmine Those tests were there before, and had been scrapped for largely the same reason. The problem is that fascists only really know how to look into the past and forget about the future. They want a return to the proverbial stone age when "men were real men, women were real women, and fuzzy creatures from Alpha Centauri were real fuzzy creatures from Alpha Centauri", to quote Douglas Adams in the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

@jasmine I agree that the tests will get scrapped. With credit to Inigo Montoya: "they keep talking about testing. I do not think that it means what they think it means". They are in the FA phase. I didn't know that in Atlanta 1996, 8 athletes in the women's side tested for XY. And were allowed to compete

If a cis woman fails whatever "sex test" the IOC makes her take, the right-wing media will crow about how she obviously has a penis, testicles, sperm, XY chromosomes, and has "fathered" children. It doesn't matter whether she actually has any of those: once they catch whiff of the possibility that they might have any abnormal characteristics, the right-wing media will make up the rest. How do I know? Because that's what they did to Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting. Neither of whom actually failed any sort of "sex test," but the right-wing media lied and said they did. Then the right-wing media lied and said they both had penises and testicles and could "father" children.
