I need more good heist movies, but I think I have seen most of them. Anyone got any recommendations for recent heist movies in the vein of the Ocean's movies, Casa de Papel (which Netflix so boringly renamed 'Money Heist'), Now You See Me, and so forth, with a good ensemble cast?

  • @sindarina Vaguely remember seeing a heist movie called Brothers Bloom, or something like that?

@sindarina not recent, but I assume you have seen the Maiden Heist?

@sindarina @Ashedryden I’d say definitely Inside Man and possibly Highest 2 Lowest (both Spike Lee) depending on your flexibility, plus Jackie Brown if you are ok with Tarantino’s, er, unique voice. Snatch (Guy Ritchie) is more of a caper but could count. Wrath of Man (same director) is more explicitly a heist. And I’d finally throw out Heat (Michael Mann) as definitely _having_ a good heist. In fact, Thief is also excellent, and Public Enemies could count too (both Mann). Finally, Catch Me if you Can (Spielberg) is very close in tone and emotional feel to Now You See Me, IMO.

@sindarina [edit: OPE! Totally overlooked the “recent” qualifier. I fail! But here’s my less recent list anyways.] I do love a good heist. I’m sure I’m missing a bunch that I’ll think of later, but these immediately come to mind (in order of release date). Rififi (1956) The Italian Job (1969*) The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three (1974) A Fish Called Wanda (1988) Point Break (1991) Run Lola Run** (1998) Ronin (1998) Nine Queens (2001) Rogue One*** (2016) Bonus: Pink Panther (1963) plus the other Sellers sequels. The Guy Ritchie films of the early 2000’s for dumb fun. *The 2003 was not as strong, but still fun. **ok this one is only heist adjacent but it still hits the same vibe sometimes. ***It totally counts!

@sindarina Kill James Bond did a season (several years?) of heist* movies, don't listen to the episodes if you don't want spoilers, but the episode list itself contains stuff not mentioned in the other posts. *Sometimes they're stretching the definition of heist, but I got some really good recs from it

@sindarina my friend is currently doing a personal heist film festival and has his list online. 96 in total so far (though he admits some are a bit heist adjacent). https://sleepykev.com/heist_2026/

@sindarina Not a heist movie, but a possible angle: "Sneaky Pete" is about a con man, but it does have several heist scenes in it. Plus Giavanni Ribisi, who's hawt, and the delightful Margo Martindale. It's kinda a dramedy.

@sindarina Rogue One and the Andor series are good (if Star Wars is ok)

@sindarina not quite the kind you’re asking about, but I thought Crime 101 was way better than it needed to be. Good ensemble for sure

@sindarina The Bad Guys and its sequel are both delightful examples of the genre in animated form

@sindarina I don't know how far back you've gone, but The League of Gentlemen is a good one from the B&W days. And, of course, The Lavender Hill Mob.

  • @sindarina Not a movie, but the recent (October 2025) miniseries Frauds is premiere heist content! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frauds_(TV_series)

@sindarina not a movie, but Leverage is basically a heist in every episode.

@sindarina Lisa at Video Library, knowing my fondness for One Last Heist And Then I’m Out Of the Game recommended The Hot Rock https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068718/ … which arrived the week after RR died, so it was out. Yes, I also want something modern, but I trust her. (1/2)
