Tonight at fencing, coaching a couple of the more advanced kids about a complex action, and then how to provoke that action. One of them: “what if they do [something not expected from that provocation]?” Me: “well, you’ve learned something about them, haven’t you?” The other of them: “so you’re figuring out their strategy.” Watching the lightbulbs go off is why I teach.
