Tonight at fencing, coaching a couple of the more advanced kids about a complex action, and then how to provoke that action.
One of them: “what if they do [something not expected from that provocation]?”
Me: “well, you’ve learned something about them, haven’t you?”
The other of them: “so you’re figuring out their strategy.”
Watching the lightbulbs go off is why I teach.

OK, first one, here I go with my provocation, do that [unexpected action]. Here’s that provocation again. Third time, I’ve figured out a way around it. I like to think I saw their lightbulb.

@BramMeehan@ohai.social I always preferred watching the light bulb go ON... 😉 But yes! The contact high, the rush! Been there, did that. A lot. Less opportunity these days, and music -- and resisting the regime -- have taken center stage, but I still get a bit of tutoring in.
