@ElleGray@mstdn.social I have never heard this stated more clearly and more powerfully. Thank you.

@ElleGray@mstdn.social Calling empathy a weakness is a pathology.

@ElleGray@mstdn.social isn't this just narcissistic personality disorder or sociopathy?

@ElleGray@mstdn.social Powerfully put! But I don't believe lack of empathy (ie, sociopathy) should be considered a disability so much as a disqualification.

@ElleGray@mstdn.social i also think ppl who don't have empathy and don't see it as a problem, they don't have any friends. And then they wonder why they don't have any friends. You would think that would give them the first clue that there is a problem at their end. Not at everyone else's end. I'm not saying that anyone who has no friends has no empathy (the person could just be really shy), but I would be willing to bet that most people with no empathy have no friends, or they have left behind a trail of destroyed relationships

@ElleGray@mstdn.social I think the disability diagnosis is not fully getting the scope. I think that people who don’t have empathy or consider it a weakness do probably believe that there is a color they can’t see, but they hate other people enjoying it. Gustav Mark Gilbert stated as part of his investigation of the Nürnberg trials: “the root of evil is the absence of empathy”

@ElleGray@mstdn.social No. these are ableist talking points, the system rewards doing harm, by labeling all awful people as lacking empathy, you're ignoring that awful people are people, that there isn't some inherent trait that makes them awful have a look at the replies to your posts and see how this rhetoric encourages disgusting takes
