@LonM@social.vivaldi.net I suspect not having sufficient resources available and not having the right level of expertise in-house. 'Saving money' is an illusion if your reputation is trashed in the process.

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net adding to the list of terrible app strategy choices like Sonos and Foursquare.

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net My guess is poor procurement. They didn’t spend enough time and resources on what they needed and how to achieve it. The dizzying fact is that the reason they ditched the previous app was also poor procurement because they didn’t factor in any legacy procedures at the beginning. 🤦♀️ Learning from the past seems to be in short supply!

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net Let me guess, they outsourced the new app to a third party, then pressed them to reduce the price, so they saved the money back by reducing testing. #ITProcurement

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net Firstglagow (buses) did a major app update about 7 months ago and it caused a bit of chaos. Luckily the old app ran okay for a while afterwards. I immediately had problems and told my sister not to update until it was fixed. They actually changed the criterion for passwords so it meant a lot of the original passwords used on folks accounts were no longer valid. (1/2)

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net I’ve been receiving emails about the ‘upgrade’ over past weeks. Never used a Scotrail app, only ever used the website to buy tickets. Yet another reason to eschew ‘apps’ and transact using a web site with ‘receipts’, QR codes, etc, via email. Like… Scotland: mountains, glens, the mobile internet (4/5G) coverage isn’t (yet) stellar.
