Does your city or town have a signature dish? (Replies with details and pictures are welcome!) #EvanPoll #poll #food

Friends, if "city" or "town" doesn't well describe where you live, feel free to either bend the meaning to your needs, or skip the poll. You're also free to chew me out for not listing hamlets, suburbs, exurbs, municipalities, townships, favelas, unincorporated areas, villages, or whatever other human habitation centres you can think of in the question.

@evan@cosocial.ca Not the city I live in - boooring, but the city I grew up in - yes many! I was going to say Dolma but that's common in other countries, so I will pick Kubba Hamuth - because I think despite our heavily influenced cuisine none of our neighbours make it There is really nothing that tastes like Kubba Hamuth, we make it with rice It takes 6-10 hours to make, so a lazy cook like me would not even attempt to make it, but I love eating it :-0) https://www.standard.co.uk/going-out/foodanddrink/iraqi-lamb-meatballs-philip-jumas-recipe-for-kubba-hamuth-a3123246.html

@evan@cosocial.ca There are several listed in the Wikipedia article on the cuisine of Berlin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuisine_of_Berlin but if I had to choose, I’d say Döner Kebab 🥙

  • @evan@cosocial.ca Ottawa calls itself the shawarma capital of Canada, so there's that. There's also an Ottawa pizza style, which I find revolting, but it exists and is popular enough that this is what most of the local chains sell.
