@cainmark@mstdn.social asks: Q2. For those bicyclists who don't use cycling shoes and pedals designed for them, do you have a favorite "flat" pedal? I had some metal ones that were comfortable and worked great, but tore up my shoes over time. And I had some plastic ones that broke after just a few months. #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A2, my gravel/tourer/commuter everything AWOL has shimano pedals that are flats on one side, cleats on the other and I think they're excellent. The fixie has some lime green plastic flats, can't remember what brand but they're still going strong after a few years

  • @ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2 I tried flats on my MTB for a couple of years, just couldn't get into it. And the pedals tore up my shoes, socks, pants, car interior... I'm still pulling out things full of holes from those pedals. But less pointy ones for the street I would probably be OK with. I just like clipping in better. And I am not a road bike racer, I'm more of a rat bike cruiser. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2. I just use the pedals that came with the bike (Gazelle Arroyo C7), which are mostly plastic with a metal center, and they were fine till a driver hit me a couple weeks ago and broke the plastic off one of them. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social #bikeNite Pedals !!! I've never done the things you unclip from that are called clipless, what? I am takin' apart my Gazelle and oh, yea!!! For some reason the bike shop put glow in the dark ones on ;) Teh old fashioned "glow in the dark" that holds the light for a while (I had a rosary and two cute tiny "lamps" that would do it too). I don't know how long they'd last, though. I LUV LUV LUV my redshift pedals, though. They do not eat my shoes, *and* to my delight they don't get slimy when they get wet. Oh, and they have USB port lights, front and back for each pedal, either solid or blinky.... and they adapt so front facing they're white and rear is red. I pop out the light cells on weekends to recharge but you can still ride without them. Since the pedals are blinking, it's obvious you are a moving thign, not a mailbox.

@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social I like Odyssey BMX pedals, I have them on my mtb and my road bike. They come in super fun colors and are very durable, the set on my road bike is over 20 years old.

@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2: after riding spd for years, i switched to MKS monarchs last year for the commute and a couple of 50 plus mile gravel rides. Hike a bike and trudging through sand in real hikers cant be beat #bikenite

@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A2. I don't have a one favorite, but I'll plug MKS pedals from Japan, who have several different designs I like. MKS has been around since I was a child, and is one of the most famous pedal makers still in business. BTW, I do wear "cycling shoes". Not all cycling shoes are designed for clip-in pedal cleats. There are still "cycling shoes" in the world designed for platform pedals.

  • @ascentale@sfba.social A2: I like the PNW (mine're "Berry") but I file the screws down because if you don't they can be murder on your shins xD #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @cainmark@mstdn.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2. I've got Crank Brothers Stamp 1 I think. The pegs will tear up shoes, but not too bad (though I frequently wear biking shoes for flats). I got these for the color, though, because biking is about aesthetics first and foremost, no? #BikeNite
