Asked kid if they would want to do a book club with me while they were away at school. Kid chose Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. I did not know the author or the novel but a peek at the associated Wikipedia page made me smile as this is an extremely on mission choice for this kid, at this school.

tour de big bear was a bit of a struggle as i have not been pedaling much in recent weeks- its just too hot. but the mountain was beautiful and the vibes were on, so i pedaled my pace. stopped to take in the view when i felt like it, helped out other riders with mechanicals or who were suffering with encouragement and snacks, and let my brain wander. the temps were high and it was very dry. many riders were fighting dehydration and the altitude. there were plenty of aid stations staffed by k...

Tour de Big Bear is this weekend. The city hosts a bicycle festival and a bunch of rides all weekend annually; i like the Dirty Bear. It is a 50 mile course in the forest north of the lake with some pavement. Im not feeling very strong and am worried about the heat. It will hit close to 90° up there despite being at 7000' elevation and it is very dry. Will likely just pedal the fun part and dip out for shade and cold drinks.

When the entirety of CISAs guidance on not getting your water infra pwned by IRGC is “disconnect your shit from the internet” i feel sad and lonely and like ive wasted 15 years shouting at a wall. Despite standing next to a few hundred others shouting at the same damned wall with me.

While waiting to check in, a man was discussing a cancellation fee with the clerk. The man and i made eye contact and i jomed that the cancellation fee depends on how loud he gets about it. Man takes a beat and says to me: “ you can get loud. i am a black man in a hotel. If i get loud, i get shot” Timid chuckles. Man goes back to the waiting area. When i finished checking in, i reminded the desk clerk to please waive that mans cancellation fee. More timid chuckling. Later, encounterin...

Driving around Berkeley this week, i ended up driving the entirety of Arlington blvd from Alvarado Park up by San Pablo to where it ends at Marin ave. The boulevard winds along a hill face with a view of SF across the bay and is packed with all different kinds of houses. But also schools, shops, municipal facilities, parks, and all right on top of each other. The thing that stood out most for me though was that it was an absolute pain in the butt to drive in our 4runner. I was wanting my bike...

Offerup is awful but its handy for unloading extra junk if you are willing to wade through the algorithm and the flippers, scammers, screamers, laughers. The messaging is particularly terrible and they are absolutely spying on people so this makes me laugh every time i take a convo to sms
