@wendynather@infosec.exchange oh crap. Prednisone is so hard on your bones. I am sorry. My best friend is having similar problems due to high dose prednisone use for Lupus and MS. Oddly, prednisone makes me feel worse, and it took me a long time to convince them of that. I've been through a whole tour of the biologics: Humira, Enbrel, Orencia, all of which are somewhat effective at slowing down the damage. Methotrexate did nothing at all. I have osteopenia, which makes me think that the disease itself might be stealing from our bones and prednisone just accelerates an already existing process? Anyway, it sux that there's not been a breakthrough other than DMARDs. I suppose someone is doing research. I hope so, for the young people coming up.

  • @kimlockhartga@beige.party Ha! Yeah, not only did the DMARDs not help, but Remicade caused me to have an infusion reaction. Very exciting. I have no way of knowing whether I would have lost bone mass without the steroids, but now I have a whole different adventure in the form of trying to get dental surgery after being on Prolia for years.

@kimlockhartga@beige.party @wendynather@infosec.exchange once you're in the "cocktail" stage of chronic diseases, there are no good choices without side effects. my mom is 89, lupus, thyroid, both flavors of arthritis, low bone mass, high blood pressure, high cholesteral. half of what she's taking are to blunt the effects of the drugs she's taking...
