tried the new paella pan. did it with andouille sausage, shrimp, red bell pepper, onion, bit of tasso ham. rice texture came out reasonably well, crust not quite what i wanted. overall, tasty and pretty happy with it.

tried a new cocktail tonight, a jabberwocky. equal parts gin, fino, cocchi americano, lemon bitters, lemon twist. interesting. not sure i'll do it all the time but a nice summer variant of a martini.

been watching a documentary on teddy roosevelt. it talks about enforcing anti-trust against railroads, steel, etc., forming of unions, regulating work hours, etc. we're back, 125 years later, to fighting all those battles again. the people won before over the gilded age, capitalists, and the rich. not enough, and not completely, but they won key victories. time to step up again.
