What do you do when the person you're interacting with directly is the interface to a really horrible and inadequate service? I try so hard not to take anything out on people in service jobs, and I don't know how to convey to the company responsible that this is unacceptable, without dragging this person into it somehow. Am I just being a Karen? Legit request for feedback here, including permission to tell me I am, in fact, being a Karen.

@iris@neuromatch.social I like that you wonder about this. I also try hard to be kind to even the most ineffective customer service rep because I'm sure they're over worked and under paid, and probably have more at stake with their job than I do. That said, it's the company's fault for being greedy ass holes, and if you or I have the time and energy, we could track down some sort of feedback mechanism that would allow us to express our frustration at bad service and their greed, but then I ask myself if anything would really change. I guess this has been pointless feedback other than to say that kindness is seldom wasted, especially on someone doing a job they probably hate and don't get paid enough for.

@iris@neuromatch.social Oh, I often wind up saying, "I hope it's clear that I'm not angry at you. I am angry, and I am trying not to take it out on you because you're just doing your job and you didn't put these policies (or systems or whatever) into place, but they're not okay and I'm angry at them."

  • the hardest part is that their helpfulness is capped at what the system allows. the system is usually the problem. doesn't make the call easier.

@iris@neuromatch.social Ask for what you want. That is fair. Demanding is a little kareny. But if it is impinging in your rights, then go for it. It really depends in the situation.
