@cmccullough@polymaths.social Considering that the Luddites were all about maintaining a standard quality of work and being paid a fair share of the organization in which they were a part, something which capitalistic automation threatened on various levels, I daresay it's no insult, no insult at all. The use of 'luddite' as a pejorative is a capitalist fiction.

They couldn't vote, the judiciary and the press were broadly in the hands of those who owned the mills... union activity was illegal -

They were people who hated and rejected the abuse and dismissal of humans being replaced by machinery. It was the human cost at the heart of their protest. So yes, I am a Luddite. And it is the right thing to be. We should always oppose machines damaging humanity. Wealthy business owners getting rid of people because a machine can do the work (so they have been told). Luddites forever!
