@ifixcoinops@retro.social well if you teach them to read then you don't need to install the gate, a sign that says "no unaccompanied babies on stairs, £5 fine" will suffice

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I feel this in my bones. Thank you for the more creative and beneficial outlet for my frustration.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I was quite young when I learned to read. Mom realized I was ready and just fucking went for it. Then she was able to "get 40 winks" while I read my little books :D

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I don't have a heat pump, I can't afford solar panels, I have few enough devices that Home Assistant is only a minor ballache... but THIS, this speaks to me. (My eight-month-old just started turning board book pages by herself, you see)

@ifixcoinops@retro.social ooooooof yes I feel this in my bones. It wasn’t until my eldest daughter was about 4-1/2 that we discovered she couldn’t read because she needed very strong glasses.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social The sold a story thing elides some very specific political context about the Bush administration and its war on public education. I'm sure its broadly right on reading, but there's a lot of the story missing in terms of why and how things happened as they did.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social And it's a great way to avoid installing that baby gate you don't want to cobble together! Now if only she'd go the fuck to bed so I can go help the older one read another bedtime story...

@ifixcoinops@retro.social This being the first post in this thread that I saw upon opening Masto today, I had terrifying couple of moments where I thought you might have had a 2nd baby and I completely managed to miss that fact.
