The main benefit of waking up early is, in my eyes, the fact you can bugger about for a couple of hours without wasting too much of the useful day.

I was going to go to the office today, I was looking forward to it, I was even going to go and pick up some food for the weekend from Lidl on my way home. Unfortunately my brain has Gone A Bit Funny and now I'm not feeling it, and I feel bad about that.

We have enough programmers and other touchers of computer in FOSS. We need more humanities folks, and perhaps a few people who understand that computers are supposed to be tools to Do Stuff, not an end in themselves.

i think that an important part of anti-AI praxis is not speaking with misplaced confidence about things you don't actually know very much about

Wow, I really did wake up from a nap and choose misanthropy, didn't I?

Pretty much exactly ten years ago I unexpectedly became the defacto network engineer for the school I worked at. I was in no way equipped to be such a thing. The terms of my contract were not favourable for the level of responsibility, so I did the sensible* thing and quit my job to go deliver pizzas. I think about that sometimes.

"install our software using this docker compose file" Yeah, cool, could you explain why the default setup you provide is explicitly deprecated and doesn't even work, and if you modify the compose file to match what the correct setup should be it... Still doesn't work?

I should have been a heating engineer or something like that.

I'm finding that I actually quite like docker containers, particularly using DockHand as a GUI frontend. But it is highlighting that actually it seems like a lot of FOSS projects don't actually know how to make them properly.

Does software just not fucking work anymore or something???

I've wasted the last 6 hours trying to set up some sort of task management system so that I can waste less time. I cannot for the life of me get any of them to fucking run. This has put me in a very bad mood.

I've been window shopping for used P-series ThinkPads. I'd love to buy a brand new one, but it's a lot of money in comparison for not that much gain. I hopefully have some money coming in from a tax fuck up being fixed, and it would probably do me a lot of good to have a separate laptop for work and pleasure.

Fifty five plus hours without a cigarette. No particular cravings, the NRT seems to be dealing with that ok. What it doesn't seem to be dealing with quite as well is the withdrawals. I am a ball of incandescent rage and anxiety. Something I'm particularly pissed off about is people who smoke at bus stops without even making an effort to go downwind of other people standing there. It's doing funny things to my appetite for food too. Something I've noticed compar...

Something about rehearsing and recording voiceovers really wears down my energy faster than it feels like it should. However, I have found that a cup of tea made with four sugars and enough powdered milk to make a whole glass of milk perks me right back up.
