@monkeyninja@10base2.dev Displays are heavier than smart tvs, owing to their intended commercial use. A 43 inch smart tv, for example, might weight 20 lbs or less. A commercial display might weight 50. Check that it has internal speakers and NTSC hardware, required to play broadcast or cable tv in the US. Check the features you want or want to avoid. The same manufacturer's model might have different options, which would explain wide variations in price and availability.

@huntingdon@mstdn.social Not having internal speakers seems like a plus. There are only a few TV's that come with speakers that provide somewhat ok sound. Base is near absent. We currently use a tiny bluetooth speaker we bought used, even that lill thing is way better than the built in TV speakers :/ @monkeyninja@10base2.dev

  • @huntingdon@mstdn.social NTSC won't give you TV in the US save for 2 or 3 leftover low power stations in coal country. Since 2010, you need ATSC. @monkeyninja@10base2.dev

  • @huntingdon@mstdn.social TVs shouldn't even come with speakers outside of a small percentage designed to be ultraconvenient and small (say, a <= 32 inch dorm room TV). Built-in TV speakers suck and you can go all the way back to the 1980s to find good speakers that still work. My daily driver PC speakers are from 1988. In many cities in the USA, you can get decent speakers and an amplifier that powers them on Facebook for $80. Less if you negotiate, wait for deals, or check thrift stores. I say they're "basically free" but that's the long version of that saying. For example: - two speaker pairs in the trash - one decent, one iffy pair for $20 at a yard sale - tons of speakers at the thrift store and thrift outlet store ("bins"), all under $30 - mono bluetooth+aux speaker on eBay for $35
