WaPo says Trump has cut about 200 intel agency jobs in the last six weeks. He's done the same with other bureaucracies. He says it makes his job easier, because he doesn't have to face pushback from people who know what they're doing. Trump doesn't rely on facts and analysis. He relies on his gut, which means blind guesswork and personal bias. It's his lifelong way of decision-making. It's ruining the govt the way it would ruin a normal business.

@ElizabethEiler@universeodon.com Privatizing TSA substantially increases cost or substantially lowers security. It can only be one or the other. It also puts a screen between whatever replaces TSA employees and transparency and accountability. Plus, it cuts the number of unionized employees on the federal workforce. A win-win for Trump and his wannabe dictatorship, a lose-lose for the USG, American travelers, and the American public.

@QudsNen@mastodon.neometropolis.net Another Congress that suggested "integrating" the military with another country's would be accused of treason, of tossing American sovereignty out the window. It's what Republicans do when describing, say, the ICC. Integrating with NATO or other treaty partners ain't the same thing. The US maintains its own command structure, staffing, and decision-making. Trump and Netanyahu want to permanently embroil the US in constant ME warfare o...

Admittedly, Trump and his DOJ attack and attempt to delegitimize the press any chance they get. Facts are their enemy. But the surprising scope of the subpoenas the DOJ is trying to use in its investigation of NYT's reporters's claims about the frailties of Trump's Qatari Bribe Palace suggests that the DOJ is looking for information about more than the subject matter of the investigation it admits to. https://www.rawstory.com/trump-doj-2677249534/

@georgetakei@universeodon.com LOL. The spot price for gold is nearly US$4000/troy ounce. Exactly how much "gold" is in Donald Trump's $1.00 gold piece.

According to an intern at the WaPoop, "Hany Farid, a digital forensics professor at the University of California at Berkeley, confirmed there is no evidence the image [of Mitch McConnell and his wife] was AI-generated." That the picture is genuine is not as important as what it doesn't say. McConnell isn't moving or walking. He isn't speaking. He apparently can't sit up in bed on his own. We only know what his staff say he said. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl...

@georgetakei@universeodon.com Of the thousands of suitable retorts to Trump's claim that Kamala Harris is "half a person," there's a line from Will Smith in Men in Black, when he replies to a colleague cop so fat, his belt won't hold up his pants: "What do you mean? I am half the man you are."

Donald Trump was NOT "misquoting" the Declaration of Independence, when he claimed it says, "we are all made in the image of one almighty God." At best, you might say that Trump "misattributed" his point to the wrong document. But you could only do that if you consciously ignore how frequently Trump makes shit up. https://crooksandliars.com/2026/07/trump-misquotes-declaration-independence

"Vance Says His Faith Makes Him Averse To 'Low Wage Foreigners'. More race-baiting from fake Christians JD Vance and Laura Ingraham along with more lectures to the Pope." JD Eyeliner has learned how to say he's neither a Catholic nor a Christian without saying it. He is, however, a poseur. According to CNN, "[t]he U.S. Navy was searching for a missing crew member after a helicopter made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea." An "emergency landing" in open water is what anyone not writing a press release calls a crash. Hope all four crew members are safe, including the one the Navy has not yet found or rescued. https://www.rawstory.com/navy-searches-for-missing-crew-member-after-helicopter-makes-emergency-arabian-sea-landing/

Very few average men and women race to the US to give birth to their children. Wealthy women and their partners do, and they do it in luxury. The numbers are not large enough to justify the enormous expense, probably hundreds of millions annually, and political capital being spent on this issue by Trump and Republicans. It's worth it to them, though, to try to divide us. If we stand together, they fail. https://www.rawstory.com/markwayne-mullin-birth-tourism/

Trump and his patrons are in the process of inventing the crime of "birth tourism." They are seeking to prosecute its alleged perpetrators for some sort of fraud. The atrocity is not with alleged birth tourism, which harms no one. It's Trump's attempt to criminalize it - while he engages in real crimes on nearly a daily basis. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/01/trump-birth-tourism-supreme-court

As with Trump's obsession with the chimera of voter fraud, "birth tourism" has become his new, Great Satan, an enemy he must purge from the body politic. That's like treating a sneeze as a global pandemic. It's another Trump fraud. Presumably, it's designed to enrage the base and distract from Trump's rapid decline and his lengthening list of massive failures. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/01/trump-birth-tourism-supreme-...

A superb critique of Alan Greenspan: "Alan Greenspan, iconic economist of the New Gilded Age and capitalist extremist who made the world worse for his ideological running of the economy, is dead at the age of 100....Alan Greenspan was a horrible economist who made the nation and world worse through his obsession with Randian quackery.... Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, when asked about wanting to become President or gain a Senate seat: "What’s funny about that is they assume my ambition is positional. They assume my ambition is a title or a seat. My ambition is way bigger than that. My ambition is to change this country. @jnl @bich Yep. Tetanus is very nasty. In advanced stages, every muscle in your body can contract at the same time, instead of sets of muscles alternating between contracting and relaxing. The tension can break bones and make breathing impossible. It's a painful death. The bacterium that causes it is widespread. The vaccine against it is readily available and prevents its expression. Get the vaccine. Get the periodic booster. It's cost is peanuts compared to treating the disea...

Donald Trump knows how to bully, extort, grandstand, and cave. That's pretty much it. Trade talks with Canada, normally our friendliest neighbor, were about to start, to revise the US-Canada-Mexico trade agreement, which Trump "negotiated" during his first term. Before they do, Trump wants Canada to make concessions - to pay an entry fee - upfront. Once a carnival barker, addicted to bait 'n switch, always a carnival barker. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/w...

Donald Trump is railing again against birthright citizenship, the normally non-controversial guarantee in the 14th Amendment. One of his lines is that it was meant for children of slaves, not Chinese billionaires. LOL. Trump made a lot of money renting or selling luxury condos to oligarchs of any nationality, whose partners were visiting the US for a few months before and after they gave birth.

If Puppy Killer Kristi needs her Linus blanket to keep her comfy when riding on aeroplanes, Shirley, she has an aide available to make sure her blankie makes it from one aeroplane to another when she changes planes. But, no, Noem and Lewandowski expect the pilots to look after her blankie, on pain of losing their jobs. Apart from her wasteful spending, her narcissism and petty cruelty, Noem humiliates her staff, her department, and herself.

After Jeffrey Epstein's 2008 guilty plea for soliciting sex with a child, billionaire Les Wexner told his long-time protege to "Always be careful." Wexner did NOT express his sadness or disappointment, or tell Epstein to stop raping children. He told him to be more careful when he did it. What are the odds the unreleased Trump-Epstein files have revelations that would make even Trump and Wexner gag? What about the trove of Trump-Epstein files secreted at the Treasury?...

The scale of Jeffrey Epstein's "global criminal enterprise" makes it a crime against humanity. Who's running it now? Why does the USA, which hosted Epstein's criminal enterprise for decades, feel so little responsibility for it, its government refuses to comply with its statutory obligations to release Justice Dept files on him. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/feb/18/epstein-files-crimes-against-humanity-un-experts

Eric Trump says, "to be fair," the Trump brand has been a worldwide "brand success" for decades. If Eric had said "to be fair" and meant it in any context other than to promote his dad, he'd be kicked out of the Trump Org and written out of the will. Trump survived because a TV producer sold him to the world as a smart bidnessman, replenishing the $400 million he'd frittered away, with several bankruptcies, failed businesses,...

About those Trump-Epstein files. They don't include the trove of documents held by the US Treasury. Seems to be an oversight that Congress could promptly fix.
