@huntingdon@mstdn.social @georgetakei@universeodon.com 1 gram of gold is about 130$, but going by the alleged size of the coin, this gram is not going to be enough to electroplate gold onto 130 of these coins, let alone any thicker and more robust gold coating on a (presumably) nickel coin. If the US Mint went through with this plan, they would lose money on each coin produced. This might be acceptable for a limited collectible run, but definitely not for a circulatory coin.
