@sturmsucht yes, Linux is great for that! No bloat, only the three things they use the computer for - it's perfect

@sturmsucht A lot to be learned on how to be young from some individuals of the elder generations, compared to the apathy of some other younger individuals.

@sturmsucht Well done Chris :BlobhajHeart: That's my experience too, those with the least technical skill are the most open to change (nothing to lose I guess...) Good luck with your mint install! #endof10

@sturmsucht This is exactly the kind of thing I'm hoping to get involved in, I'm doing research right now on Zorin OS (tip of the iceberg) in order to help folks accomplish the same goal.

@sturmsucht this is great! I'd love to do something like this but just moved from the US to the UK and don't really know how to even look for this kind of thing (it's so funny how moving to another country makes you realize how much system knowledge you just take for granted.... Like, I have to relearn where to go to buy/find/do specific things that before didn't even require thought - I just knew ๐)

@sturmsucht everyone thinks Chris is doing a great thing but we all know he's after some of Grandma's cooking, some free food, and to steal recipes! ๐คญ just kidding Chris: you're awesome

@sturmsucht I switched my grandparents to LibreOffice in maybe 2010? My grandfather wrote his attempt at a memoir as a .odt file. I cherish it

@sturmsucht Great work. As an older person myself I have turned to IT as a means of keeping the brain active. Dumping MS and migration to #Ubuntu on my laptop has felt quite liberating. As has ordering a @jolla phone. I don't have the patience to do what you do though!

@sturmsucht - for better or worse, its the older generation who created the technology the younger crowd take for granted. You're welcome. They may not know how certain products work or are installed now, but they're keenly aware of what it means to have it.

@sturmsucht That's nice ... but how about getting the teens together and teaching them the difference between fake and real, especially 'news', remove the ads from their phone, and how to protect themselves from predators ... Oh wait ... teens already know everything :)

@sturmsucht my experience with my elderly parents was that they were much less attached to major brands... they just wanted it to work, and most things worked very poorly for elders if not outright trying to take advantage of them.

@sturmsucht This is similar to my experience. I volunteer for my local repair cafe and there's usually at least one person, often in their 60s or older, who would like to switch their old Win10 computer to Linux. Everyone I've helped switch to Linux Mint so far seems very happy with it. It's easy to use and stays out of your way, unlike Windows which will nag you to set up OneDrive/Copilot among other annoyances.
