@autistics@fedigroups.social There used to be a forum about #Autism called "Wrongplanet". It's been offline for several months now. It had a huge number of interesting threads, all the way back to about 2012. One of the best threads was a "Megathread", where each #ActuallyAutistic forum member contributed the best boiled-down advice they could muster, for the other Autistic people - **how to understand Neurotypicals**. It took me days to read it. There was a ton of good advice, which hit me like a ton of bricks. I saved my favorite posts, and made a .pdf out of it; *straight-up copying and pasting* - even leaving grammar errors intact. I made a nice .pdf out of it, formatting it for a phone screen. @d1@autistics.life @autistics@fedigroups.social oh god it is perfection. right out of the damn gate this is ACTIONABLE, CONTEXT RICH instruction without pretense. and at a level of detail where it can easily be applied situationally OR easily considered at a higher level of abstraction, for patterns and principles. 🤌 to me this looks like the apex of curated human wisdom. thank you very much. I love it.

@d1@autistics.life @autistics@fedigroups.social You mean I could have learned about this stuff 14 years ago instead of 2 years ago?!? :blob_cat_cry: I might have been able to get my life somewhat in order before it became a matter of survival. Thanks for compiling and posting this. So far my favorite one is the one about modem handshakes. We must do something similar to that, it's just our communication protocols are a lot different, and thus not always considered compatible (which just means that better communication software is needed with more protocols included).

Really great tips that were hard-won for me over years of being the undiagnosed designated "weird one". Like holy shit it would have been nice to understand that they value symbolic actions way more than genuine ones 40+ years ago. Thank you for compiling and sharing this.
