@sue@glasgow.social I don't believe they are walking back because of new information, they are worried about investors opinions.

@sue@glasgow.social that's pretty funny... I suspect most of the LLM revenue comes from people who are eyeing big bonuses from slashing their "staffing budget line". Waiting for the realization to sink in that the client companies have fired their biggest competitive advantage without an available viable alternative.

@sue@glasgow.social don't worry, they would become homeless after they empire would fall down, like Roman Empire.

@sue@glasgow.social I'm quite surprised by Altman's admission that he couldn't delegate answering emails to an LLM. Given that his job appears to be 100% talking shite, I'd have thought that replacing him with an LLM should be easy.

@sue@glasgow.social @briankrebs@infosec.exchange Altman has shades of being both stupid and bandit at the same time. There are tells but it's difficult to decipher often. I don't know the man but he comes off as staggeringly stupid yet because of moral hazard, he stands to profit from stupidity. I never use OpenAI products or any LLMs for that matter. I tried and stopped when I realized they could do not what was claimed and that they were stupid.

@sue@glasgow.social Altman has this perpetual, "slightly-confused" look on his face. I'm sure there's some who see it and are disarmed by it, but combined with the rest of his loathsome personality, ideas and activities, it's just all the more enraging. It makes him one of those "he has a really punchable face" people.

@sue@glasgow.social i don't have an MBA, but if people don't have jobs, they can't buy anything the whole capitalist system is shit, but in the current iteration, people need jobs so they can have food and shelter so if ai is going to lead to massive numbers of humans not having jobs, well.......someone better do the math

@sue@glasgow.social I started skimming the article until I saw a quote with the words “we care” and I thought “fuck do you, unless you’re talking about your bank balance”.

@sue@glasgow.social Favorite quote: He tried delegating his Slack and email responses to AI, then began responding to come again manually. “We really do care about our interactions with people,” he said. “This thing…is not something that I can imagine myself outsourcing to an AI anytime soon. It really updated me to thinking that the jobs picture is likely to be very different than we thought.”
