@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot That’s pretty ignorant, and vile. Typically colonial attitude, and dare I say it - racist as well. Scotland, Ireland and Wales have their own histories, cultures and languages. They are all places that have been colonised by the English, had their style of government, culture and history supressed and criminalised throughout their occupation by the English. ReformLtd are not a culture or a country. They are a racist, suppressive mob of ignorance & hate.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot, hmm, he's right about Frogface and Refash being dangerous, at least. And I'm not convinced that he's equating them in any way other than being nationalist. Right now, I'm waiting to see what happens with this leadership challenge, but I suspect that it'll be like last time: Streeting's the one we could well do without but is the one who we'll get. (I wonder who the right-wing rags will be backing.)

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot It also indicates he doesn't understand nationalism. Reform are inward looking nationalists, while the nationalist parties in the devolved nations are outward looking, and want to end being ruled over by said inward looking nationalists and conservatives.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot Perhaps Wes Streeting should review his Educational background as, in my book, being badly treated by a colonial overlord, sometimes for centuries, is the catalyst for the growth of nationalism, and understandably so. In Welsh-speaking Wales (19th C) schoolchildren who spoke only Welsh were made to wear a plaque around their necks with (paraphrasing here) 'I am stupid because I can't speak English'. I think it was called 'the Welsh Knot'.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot A few days ago I said I'd grown up in England, but I was very lucky and had 2 excellent History teachers, and they, in turn, had an excellent syllabus to work with. So, unlike many 'English kids', I learned, in a non-partisan way, a lot about the Emancipation campaign in Ireland during the 19th C. Later, growing up with 'The Troubles' on the News almost every night of the week, and a brother-in-law in the Brit military I sooned learned the meaning of dumb insolence.
