A few days ago I said I'd grown up in England, but I was very lucky and had 2 excellent History teachers, and they, in turn, had an excellent syllabus to work with. So, unlike many 'English kids', I learned, in a non-partisan way, a lot about the Emancipation campaign in Ireland during the 19th C. Later, growing up with 'The Troubles' on the News almost every night of the week, and a brother-in-law in the Brit military I sooned learned the meaning of dumb insolence.

@hoare_spitall@mastodon.world When I grew up in Scotland, the powers that be kept us as far away from Scottish history as was possible. We learned about the Aztecs. 😂
