@JulianOliver@mastodon.social If everyone in every city or suburban county (including some very red ones) that has passed NIMBY anti-data center (&/or power plant or transmission line related to data centers) legislation refused to directly or indirectly if they have any choice in the matter use "AI" products, the world would be a lot less awful.

@JulianOliver@mastodon.social In Arkansas a local AI Data Center (one of two proposed) was also approved despite public opposition. We had the farcical situation this week with the CEO of Central Arkansas Water saying that the facility will require 4M gallons of water per day. This was followed by news that Arkansas is going through a historic drought with water supplies in some areas already at dangerous lows. State residents will get NOTHING significant in return for taking on board all kinds of risk.
