Y'all already heard that Canada has decided that Canadian citizen can pass, retroactively, from parent to child for more than one generation -- so that if your parent, or grandparent, or great-grandparent was Canadian, you can get Canadian citizenship. (And if you didn't know that, look at https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/dual-citizenship-eh-under-new-law-millions-of-americans-may-now-also-be-considered-canadian and https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/eligibility/already-citizen.html) But the NEW news is, Canada is moving citizenship applications from transgender USians to the top of the queue. So -- if you're trans, you have Canadian ancestry, and you think that you'd like to be Canadian, get that application in! More about the trans part: https://www.cicnews.com/2026/05/canada-is-fast-tracking-citizenship-certificates-for-trans-americans-0575258.html

@robang74@ieji.de @hypha@cafe.mycelium.locahlo.st @ratsnakegames@mastodon.social In many states (not all) the laws about drivers' licenses were changed so abruptly that it became illegal to drive to office to get new license issued. People face huge fines for using the bathroom that corresponds to their gender. So a trans man who has a beard and well-developed upper body musculature 💪 is mandated to use the women's restroom. That's not going to end well. (Or he could stay home out of sight, which is the goal of the legislation.) Books with trans stories or by trans authors are being withdrawn from libraries. Physicians are being blocked from providing gender-affirming care. And federal law is reaching into the states that had been considered supportive. These days, the US is not a safe place for trans people, and I am very glad to be able to draw attention to ways to get to safer places.

@robang74@ieji.de I sort of knew that I was making a mistake by giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I appreciate you taking the time and effort to clearly affirm that for me, so I know not to waste my time trying to educate or inform you. Also, I want you to understand that I'm reporting you not because we disagree, but because I perceive you as being here for the purpose of either trolling or even as a paid professional advocate. It will be up to admins to make determination.

Drenched in falls narratives and a complete lack of understanding of how hard the attacks are raining on trans people and how many lives are ruined by things you so casually defend.

@robang74@ieji.de Spend more time learning what is going on here in the us. The Lemkin Institute for genocide preventions says the US is in early stages of a genocidal process against transgender people. This is very real. This isn't a joke nore is it just some internet debate. People are losing their healthcare. They are being labeled as domestic threats and targeted by federal law enforcement just for existing. Federal prisons are now experimenting medically on trans people. This isn't a joke, this is very scary. I am guessing you are just misinformed and thought you were correct but you are very much not correct and you are debating against people who are facing potential eradication by their own government. It makes you look infinitely cruel and out of touch. You really should apologize to everyone in this thread.

@robang74@ieji.de I think Canada's govt does perceive such an emergency, but they are currently bound by a 2002 agreement that would, by most current interpretations, forbid them from acting on that more overtly. (This is technically in review right now, I believe, but I'm no expert.) This might be a half-measure that's immediately available to them without major legislative or judicial action.

@robang74@ieji.de @AnotherJen@mindly.social There is, in fact, an emergency against those people in the US. The US regime is increasingly hostile to trans people, and there have been a significant number of laws passed that target trans people (48 such laws were passed in 2026 so far, with 773 more under consideration, of which 122 are national laws). These numbers were sourced from https://translegislation.com/ It's a matter of record that the leadership of the USA is actively targeting and dehumanizing trans people, and these actions are considered human rights violations. I think that you'd agree that victims of human rights violations should be fast-tracked, to allow them to more rapidly escape the country that is oppressing them?

@robang74@ieji.de for the benefit of anyone else reading the above expression of hatred: the US doesn't have an agency called "NHS" and never has had anything like that. this person may be thinking of the UK? most countries that aren't completely sadistic do have national health services, but the US has never been in that category to Roberto: thanks for your input. goodbye forever.

@AnotherJen@mindly.social Sadly, I apparently have zero Canadian ancestry. We have NON-ancestral relatives who became Canadian, but none who are ancestors. Canada needs to revise its asylum rules, because the ones they have now were adopted in 2002, before the current dangerous insanity going on in the US.
