@danirabbit@mastodon.online I'm not in CA, but I've only ever heard of Porter and Steyer (no more billionaires for anything). Is Porter the best choice among who's left?

@danirabbit@mastodon.online it seems like many dem candidates are just republicans at this point. And the Overton window has shifted so completely we just take it as read.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online that's what CA Democrats look for in a leader unfortunately. A Republican willing to walk in a pride parade and put a D next to their name. That's basically the qualifications.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online I’m holding my nose and voting Becerra because the alternatives are far worse—Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco are Trumpers. I also consider Tom Steyer is a billionaire spoiler and a danger to the November ballot. I think Katie Porter will not get enough votes to matter, though she would be my top choice in an actual primary. FWIW IMO California no longer has a functioning primary system. Thanks to the stupid Open Primary, we effectively have a gubernatorial election in June and a runoff in November, and I’m treating it accordingly.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online Homelessness did start as a mental health problem back in the 60’s when Reagan emptied the State Mental Hopitals and reneged on the promise of providing funding to cope. It changed to housing predominately, sometime in the 90’s. The counties, who have responsibility for chronic MH treatment consistently report the need for supportive housing as their #1 issue. But, the mentally ill do not constitute the majority of the population.
