  Lock screen is now using Gala instead of its own compositor—essential work for the new input method support and on screen keyboard. Plus it’s all Wayland. And we’re about to land the GTK4 port!   We need diversity in our communities not just at the bottom level but in leadership to represent and advocate for our interests. White men are naturally incentivized to be all “I care about the technology, let’s not get political” because the status quo benefits them and the externalities disproportionately hurt us.

  This year more than most, I’ve really been reflecting on my own disability. It really hit me when I filled out a form recently and checked three of the boxes under disability: PTSD, Major Depression, and Generalized Anxiety. And I’ve had to come to a place of acceptance with being unable to work consistently and even being hospitalized at one point. It’s hard to admit that I can’t function sometimes. One of the affirmations that’s remained on my chalkboard is, “You are disabled, not broken”.

  Went to a queer women’s event yesterday hosted by a friend who is a sex educator and we had a bunch of awesome discussions about disability! One story I found particularly interesting was about a blind person who was unable to access audio erotica because of the inaccessibility of apps and websites providing this kind of content. She introduced me to the term “arousal aid”—we love terms that erase stigma. And we talked about how to make her own website more accessible

I’m interested in trying to move elementary to a more community/nonprofit legal structure but I’m trying to wrap my head around how expenses work. Like how do I actually pay out digital ocean? Does some individual need to pay first and get reimbursed? There’s no direct way to pay expenses?

  I started elementary as a high school student. When we were building the first versions of our desktop environment, one of our core developers was in high school and his parents accompanied him to the Ubuntu Developer Summit. How many things we have today wouldn’t exist if young people weren’t allowed to participate? The cost of not creating spaces that we can safely share with young people is too high
