@anakin78z@mograph.social i actually got my dm to add stuff like this and non-combat challenges as sidequests and it is so fun and warm! 100% recommended! A whole campaign of it would be even more awesome!

@anakin78z@mograph.social I have done something similar, but D&D is not the best system for it, I think. I used a slightly modified Cortex system

@anakin78z@mograph.social Player: ‘I shoot the gazebo!’ DM: ‘Why do you even have weapons?! This place is a literal paradise - the worst thing that happened recently was a kitten stuck in a tree - and you’re randomly attacking inanimate fixtures with battlefield weapons? Why?!’ Player: *picks up dice, grinning* DM: *dies a little inside*

@anakin78z@mograph.social Oh oh, a situation with a human chain needed.

@anakin78z@mograph.social it's not D&D, but there was a PDQ system RPG called Dead Inside which I heard summarized as, "An anti-D&D. Find monsters, heal them, and give them your stuff." It is about people who have lost parts of their souls going on a quest to find or replace that missing bit. With helping others as a party of the journey.

@anakin78z@mograph.social An equally interesting idea would be a D&D campaign where you have to deal with the aftermath of the previous group of adventurers. Rebuild the houses they inadvertently burned, replant the crops that they ruined, re-sanctify the graves that they desecrated. That sort of thing.

@anakin78z@mograph.social DM: "There is a cat stuck in the tree" Player: "Uhm... I cast fireball!"

@anakin78z@mograph.social The outcomes of these "quests" could easily turn into hilarious scenes. Cat stuck in tree? Roll a 1. Grab ladder. Place ladder against tree. Top step of the ladder is broken. Player ends up with a broken leg and is taken to the hospital. All the while the cat is laughing at the spectacle at hand.

@anakin78z@mograph.social Oh, yes, this totally works. One of the best sessions of Sentinel Comics RPG I ever ran was an issue where a tsunami was heading towards a city. No villains, no evil stuff going on. Just superheroes trying to use their powers creatively to save civilians from a disaster. Tense. Powerful. Dramatic. Lots of creativity on display because we didn't fall back to "fightin' stuff". Just a great session. (Fun to GM, too!)

@anakin78z@mograph.social The worst thing you face is someone into malicious compliance.

@anakin78z@mograph.social I recently listened to a session of Stewpot https://noroadhome.itch.io/stewpot the system didn't seem to have any combat and the stated goal was "cozy"

@anakin78z@mograph.social I'd pay for shoot'm-up like call of duty, but with kindness and petting kitties instead of shooting.
