Devs please implement framerate limits on load screens so our GPUs don't scream at us and use 500 watts to show us a still image at 5000 FPS. :Sobbing: (Literally I can't think of any reason not to set load screens to like 1 FPS or something. They don't need the GPU to do any work show a still image!) As a side note, I can't figure out why DXVK_FRAME_RATE=# and D3D9_FRAME_RATE=# aren't limiting the framerate in such cases. Are these not the right variables?

Hey #Linux users, I'm running into an annoying issue where my system randomly just soft-locks, but only on Gentoo. It didn't do it on Debian-based systems or Arch-based systems for me. (What little I used of Fedora also didn't do it, but I'm not sure if I used in long enough.) It's a bad lock, but it's a soft-lock, so if I hold ctrl+alt+F3 or whatever for about two or three minutes, eventually I get to a console and can reset. The GUI never returns. The specific erro...

Speaking of the one and only bridge to and from the town, others are asking if there really is no other way out and how that makes sense and I'm just wondering... it's not exactly going over a canyon or raging river there. Couldn't they just... drive around it? #Monsterdon

Strange #Linux / #LinuxGaming (specifically #WINE ) question: I know that when you use winetricks to install various components it caches them, but it seems like the cache gets deleted or invalidated from time to time. Is there any way I can just download some sort of pack of everything it does for offline use and protect them so they don't get deleted? I want to be able to rely on being able to get the components into a new prefix when needed offline and I'm so tired of actually goin...

Ok, I have a #Repair question for those of you #DIYRepair / #DIYFix people. I have a relatively old (or maybe I should say medium age?) freezer/refrigerator โ€” a General Electric GSS20IEPA. The coils frost over and I need to defrost way too often. But I think I just figured out the bigger part of the problem: it has an automatic defroster and I don't believe it's working. I've never once ever caught it on. The problem is I'm not sure how to diagnose it. The wires are good,...

I really don't know why more of the SCP people aren't crazy about Abiotic Factor. It's SCP up the wazoo. I'm still wondering if I can ever interact with the "hate inducing table" and what that could even do in game terms. (It's supposed to make anyone who sees it hate it with an absolute passion. How would a game even represent that? Disappointingly it's behind a door that can't be opened.) I'm scared even to actually try walking under the amnesia...

@nixCraft@mastodon.social I mean, you can get bank apps to work one way or another generally speaking. Alright, sometimes that requires rooting. (Well, I believe we should have root access to our own devices anyway!) The biggest issue is /e/OS still does a lot in binary blobs that people don't have such direct access to. As a *nix-oriented account, perhaps you should take more of a look at LineageOS (which most of these things are based on at least in part anyway!) And for de-googling,...

Ok, so due to my storage problems I have talked with family and someone gave me a NAS drive they weren't using. (It's basically new. Like 40 hours of use.) I have it in a drive bay that can be turned off so I don't have to listen to it spinning (though honestly it's the least annoying mechanical drive I've ever had.) I still want to keep it off when I'm not using it (most of the time,) hoping it will last that much longer. Besides the obvious unmounting mounted parti...
