Strange #Linux / #LinuxGaming (specifically #WINE ) question: I know that when you use winetricks to install various components it caches them, but it seems like the cache gets deleted or invalidated from time to time. Is there any way I can just download some sort of pack of everything it does for offline use and protect them so they don't get deleted? I want to be able to rely on being able to get the components into a new prefix when needed offline and I'm so tired of actually going through the process to actually install all of them (which takes forever with a lot of popups and etc) and then of course have to delete the prefix since installing everything generally breaks stuff. (Plus maybe it deletes some things as it goes? Some seem to show up as not cached.)

@nazokiyoubinbou@urusai.social in my experience. The only time it gets deleted is when you delete the wine folder and make a new prefix. If you avoid deleting it, it’s fine, I don’t experience issues with it. I’ve had the same prefix for like years and it works just fine. Only recently when I wanted to change something that I actually had to make a new prefix, but it’s not like it deletes itself out of nowhere. I would write down a list of the particular packages you need like direct X11 support or .net and just make sure they are installed on the new prefix when you get it set up. But I once again don’t believe you need to create a new one every time you set up a new program.
