@TCMuffin@toot.wales I used to travel to West Yorkshire on business. A place I always thought was like it was stuck in the 50s. One of guys there got all angry with me and ranted that he couldn't understand why we hated Thatcher. When I told him my parents strapped a speaker to roofrack and drove around neighbourhood playing Ding Dong the Witch is Dead when she passed, he flipped and ranted at me even more. Probably didn't help that I just laughed.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot @TCMuffin@toot.wales one of the first people I ever met from Yorkshire was very upset that we in the former colonies thought the English had failed us in WW2, and didn’t understand why we didn’t want them back after it. “We were busy also fighting a war in Europe. It’s not surprising that the Asia front was less important”

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot @TCMuffin@toot.wales i once was asked why I don't like Thatcher if she did so much to dismantle communism. I showed them a quote when she told Gorbachev that free Poland is not in the interest of Britain and explained it's because Poland was so desperate for foreign currency, that she could get coal from Poland for pennies and fight the striking miners in Britain. They said "see, she was buying your coal". I have no (socially acceptable) words for some people.
