Training wheels are the worst way to learn how to ride a bike. With the right method, your kid will learn the actual biking within a couple of days. Nobody should ever train their kids how to bike with training wheels. Here is how to do it better: https://papiberlin.de/en/pages/learn-to-bike

@bitboxer@mastodon.social I grew up when balance bikes weren't really a thing. I learned the balance thing on an old school scooter and had training wheels on my bike for something like a day. My father mounted them so high they were practically useless and removed them the moment he saw what he wanted to see. Balance bikes made instant sense to me the moment I first saw them.

@bitboxer@mastodon.social +1 And you don't need to own each of those things. My kids e.g. learned riding a trike in Kindergarden. Maybe something worth mentioning as well.

@bitboxer@mastodon.social Instead of holding the saddle I found it more helpful to hold them at the back of their shirt, the effect of center of gravity is closer to riding alone I think. Also better for my back 😄

@bitboxer@mastodon.social my kid learned using a Gibus bike, it’s a middle ground between balance bike and actual bike. They’re lightweight, with the pedals a bit further from the saddle than usual. Quite expensive at 300€ but we sold it for the same price. It was a blast to see such a small child zooming away then reaching for the pedals and follow us on our bikes! https://gibuscycles.com/
