Hello #ActuallyAutistic and #Adhd and #AuDHD folks of mastodon, I have a question for you. How do you remember to take your medication? Especially if its a short course, like antibiotics 3 times a day for example. My partner is an nhs emergency doctor, and is trying to find ways to help her nd patients with taking their meds regularly. All solutions most welcome! #askingfedi

  • For meds I take every day, regularly, I have packs of tablets in all my bags, in different rooms, on my desk, so they're right there when I remember.

  • Thanks to everyone who's responded, these are fantastic! They will help my partners' patients to also remember to take their meds (and help us take ours).

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie in the unlikely event that there is a place in your house where you go and do the same something, at roughly the same time, everyday, put the meds there. for instance: i make myself a protein/fiber drink every morning. i keep all of the ingredients and utensils needed for the drink in one place. i put my meds with that stuff. i haven't forgotten to make myself a drink in months.

  • @AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie I have to set alarms and only turn them off when I’ve taken the medication

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie We use those seven day pill boxes tthat have a box for each day of the week, and we keep that box on the desk with our computer, which is where we sit for meals, and really for anything we are doing while at home. That way the pill box is literally visible right in front of us every time we sit down, so we get reminded of it several times a day and it's right there and convenient and easy to open and access. When we sit down and find the box is empty, we refill it.

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie My main meds are on my kitchen counter, I take the morning ones before breakfast. I leave out pills for around lunch&dinner time and I'll take those up to an hour before my "proper" dosing time to avoid sometimes taking them hours late. For my late at night the Pill Reminder phone app reminds me silently, as I may not be in the kitchen around then. Topicals are kept in my bedroom, and after my post-morning shower ones I'll put the before-bed ones on the windowsill.

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie I keep a large, 7 day, am and pm pillholder. It is big and colorful and eye catching and each day and time is labeled clearly. I keep it on the bathroom counter where I do my getting ready every morning and before bed. I've had trouble in the past remembering if I've taken my pills yet, like I've accidentally skipped them or taken a double dose. With the pillholder, I can go look at it and clearly see if I've taken them yet for that block of time.

  • @AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie I have my medicines in the bathroom as I usually remember to go in there, but I don't always remember to take them. A few years ago I created a system which I followed for about a month and it really helped: 3 checklists that I have to tick. One on the fridge, one beside my bed, and one beside where I eat. When I take the medicine I have to tick all three. I'm likely to see one of the checklists and that was a nice reminder.

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie I used a pill box that had 3 compartments per day. I'd use whether or not the compartments were empty to remember if I actually had my pills at the right time or missed them. and it helped me keep track of things cause I'd forget if I took my pills or not =-=

@AoifeGreenhamIllustrations@mastodon.ie set up a recurring alarm on your phone. I find that works great for short term reminders, but I start ignoring the reminders after a while
