@Linkletter@mastodon.social that pivot sounds like what needs to happen, but I wonder how Universities are thinking about managing OSS risk in that pivot? I spent a bunch of time recently looking at digital soverignty in higher ed, and I think there's a great opportunity with careful planning. OSS being part of that, but as a steward and not just user. @Linkletter@mastodon.social omg lol I mean, Blackboard sucked too but at least it was on premises. I know more than I want to about how that's all done at UBC and, well, "told you so" doesn't cover it. Like I said when I worked there, buying solutions is actually not innovative, and everyone buying the same solution is basically Dutch Elm Disease. And that wasn't just me justifying my job as a programmer. Bean counters rule supreme
