This is so well done. What resonated most for me was "we're losing trust in each other". I would add, and in organizations and companies that continue to ignore that fact. New leaders emerge in the ecosystem... https://blog.codeberg.org/protecting-our-floss-commons-from-llms.html #foss #opensource

@avilewis we really need the NDP right now https://bsky.app/profile/rachelgilmore.bsky.social/post/3mrt5yxi4h22l if you could please challenge Carney silence on Alberta stripping Healthcare from trans youth, and altogether looking to privatize Healthcare? Don't be shy to stand up for trans rights (see Mandami in NYC). What people are tired of, is NDP playing to the center. Be bold! Alberta's conservatives won't vote NDP anyway. We need you on this. #CANADA #transrig...

A Mirror That Talks Back - Centering #open communities in the AI feedback loop https://sunnydeveloper.com/a-mirror-that-talks-back/ The future depends on a continuation of democratization of technology, which is not where #AI is taking us right now - and certainly there is no indication that 'open source' licenses will change that (sorry). By that I mean that no matter how 'open' the AI stack says it is, one cannot change the output, I cannot trace a license, I...

I am increasingly conscious that writing and building for the Commons is not what it was. My work (like most written and published openly) is subject to being harvested, absorbed and summarized into AI systems without reciprocity or consent. Until better standards exist for how that value exchange works, I need to move to a sustainable model for writing and sharing. https://sunnydeveloper.com/moving-to-subscription-model/ #opensource #AI

RE: https://mastodon.social/@andrewnez/116346475122993248 It's been an act of convenience and a times necessity to speak two languages (one for business and one for humans and culture - but they are not the same) "'How can the commons also be a supply chain? How can a moral obligation also be a business model? “Open source” is a stack of incompatible expectations'

People are engaging w/ my #opensource sustainability playbooks (yay) on GitHub, but did you know, they are also presented as services on https://oss-wishlist.com/catalog ? The catalogue includes description of 'impact' for business perspective to help advocate for budget (employee or funded time).

It's easier to write about what's broken and scary - this time I focused on an optimistic future after #OpenSource. "The optimistic future requires tenacity on our part to insist on values to humanity: trust, consent, safety, accountability; the environment and inclusion. The alternative is to agree, that what we have built so far, is the best we are capable of - and hand it off to corporations and their machines." #AI #OpenSourceAI https://sunnydeveloper.c...

What seems most lacking is helping users practically understand #AI's output in the context of human values, and giving them the ability to change or challenge what they see; To be actually open This is what I 'learned by doing' about how easy/hard it is to evaluate open data used by an open llm #openeducation #opensource https://sunnydeveloper.com/right-clicking-on-open-source-ai-9-things-i-learned-trying-to-view-source/

One of the motivations behind #OpenSource Wishlist was to promote the knowledge that we actually know exactly how to fix MOST sustainability issues, but you need to pay someone to do the work I built some playbooks to help evaluate the success of interventions on behalf of things like succession planning, governance, moderation strategy and more; based on industry knowledge, standards and metrics. MANY talented open source experts available to do this work as well https://sunnydeveloper.com/o...
