@johnefrancis@cosocial.ca Eighty one percent of Canadian generation is from hydro (60%), nukes (14%), wind (6%) and solar (1%). Natural gas is at 12% and coal/coke is 5%. We can still improve, but we're already pretty clean.

@johnefrancis@cosocial.ca This is the perfect way to resolve the issue with Albertans crying about how meeting climate change goals will impact them. Retrain them to do renewable power installations -- then send them across the country, meeting other Canadians and helping them save money, save the planet, and contributing to the economy in a time of high uncertainty. The first batch of recruits could be ready in far less than a year.

@johnefrancis@cosocial.ca These graphs combine Ontario’s grid connected solar and wind (IESO) datasets with my home’s electrical usage dataset in an attempt to answer the question; “How much grid battery storage would Ontario need to install to run my home on solar or wind?”. Have a look at the Y axis and multiply by $/kWh for your favourite battery system. The result might surprise some. PS. My spreadsheet model is available for anyone in Ontario to use.

@johnefrancis@cosocial.ca Solar rooftop installations were booming in Alberta until 2019 when the UCP canned the program incentivizing them. Then a couple years later they adjusted regulations in ways that essentially killed the whole industry in the province. :/
