My latest Ontario home model. I have GSHP heating and 1 plug-in PHEV. I took my last 12 mo kWh usage and scaled the IESO grid connected solarPV hourly dataset to match that annual output. I created a spreadsheet to match the 2 hourly datasets and accumulate any supply deficits/surpluses. This graph is the result to date. It says I would need 4.5MWh worth of seasonal storage to carry my house on Ontario solar. #solarPV

Just finishing Cory Doctorow’s Enshitification book. He is at the section where he is identifying solutions. One of those he calls “Right to exit”. It occurred to me this is similar landscape which existed a few years back with Ontario’s cellular rules. Back then if you wanted to switch phone providers you had to change phone numbers. Rules changed where your phone # became your property and you could move it with you. We need to do the same thing with our social media IDs. You...

Unfortunately even Cory Doctorow has fallen for the “solar + batteries = fossil fuel” myth. Seasonal supply deficits kill that myth very quickly. There is a better way. https://pluralistic.net/2026/05/04/hope-in-the-dark/#hormuzed-into-the-gretacene The myth https://energyasicit.ca/WindModel/ The better way https://energyasicit.ca/EnergyVision/
