@brentsimmons It doesn’t make sense to me—you can’t go against the platform in the long term, and it doesn’t make sense to stay in the past. If Liquid Glass is not suitable for someone, they can leave the platform. It’s like having a switch to turn off Windows Vista and go back to XP. 😅

  • @tomas@iosdev.space I think it’s possible to provide a (mostly) glass-free option for the long term. At least on macOS. Apps with a great deal of custom UI — apps like Things; apps like Slack and Obsidian (Electron apps) — would have an easy time of this. We’ll see. It’s early still. But this situation reminds me a bit how, during the Aqua days, people started doing custom UI and non-standard layout to cut down on the excesses of Aqua (particularly the pinstriped window background).

@tomas@iosdev.space most apps today don’t even bother to be strictly styled like Apple’s own apps. They’re developed their own principles and sensibilities around design, including visual design. It’s not just trivial stuff, they have their own customers. Do you really think Duolingo will adopt Liquid Glass? What about Discord? Slack? Instagram? You may brush them aside, but if people use these apps a lot, there will already be visual difference on the platform.
