@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social Oh man, glad he is ok. Those street Currywursts will get you! :)

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social I'm so glad to know that he's doing all right. And yes, that is very much how civilized places should work!

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social @mcnado@mstdn.social The U.S. has become anything but civilized, and it's been this way a long time.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social Glad he's ok, and FWIW I'd expect he'd get similar care & hospitality in Canada.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social It’s so messed up that every. single. aspect. of our lives is ruled by oligarchs saying, how can I take advantage of your plight to extract as much money as possible from you. The concept of a public good, or services simply for service’s sake is so foreign to the United States.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social Great Germans and happy he’s better. A German soldier saved my Uncles life during WWII. Not all were bad or Nazis.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social I'm glad your son was treated like that. Funny how concentrating on the patient and not the shareholders is such a massively different point of view! Let's hope none of the German kids going the other way visit Taco Bell 😉

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social @lachralle@social.vivaldi.net This is why paying taxes is cool.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social this is one of the most important things: if we get ill in germany, you have a lot of care. not everything, but all you need for the day2day care (if it is food poisoning, a broken bone, whatever), there is care - and it is free. this gives you such a good feeling and some kind of "quiet mood", we love it.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social I'm surprised it occurred to them to say "No charge". They must somehow track U.S. politics.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social glad “we” took good care of your kid!

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social So glad to hear your kid is fine. Food poisoning can be bad, and especially if you are in a strange place with no family... Hope they enjoy the rest of their trip!

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social @bert_hubert@eupolicy.social pretty sure this would unfold the same way in all of EU.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social Good to hear he is OK. Though now I wonder if he knows what caused this, if it is not to personal to share. Not that you can't get food poisoning in Germany, but I am really curious if it is more like a trap foreigners get easier caught in or was really bad luck. (My wife had it indeed from Currywurst, but this is 25 years ago.)

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social Even if you don’t care about your fellow man it’s an uncomfortable truth for Libertarians that the US spends more than twice per capita on healthcare than all European countries for worse health outcomes.

@dirtyoldtown@mefi.social I'm puzzled the other way around. Just *how* come this isn't the normal healthcare experience everywhere? So many centuries of civilisation behind us and we still can't agree this is what it's about? (Glad your son's OK though.)
