I think Apple AI's strategy should be do the thing only they can do, local AI but not the crappy little models made to run on phones. Focus on getting models running on only high end Macs with high (but reasonable) amounts of RAM first. Train it/them to work well for iOS/Mac coding and OpenClaw like work. Don't worry about being "frontier" just good enough when running on >= 64GB of RAM.

@paul@tapbots.social @mgs@me.dm I’ve been saying this from the beginning!

@paul@tapbots.social I believe it will be seen as a very fortunate accident. They were never going to win the frontier model race, and they don’t need to. The value is in the integration, and they will have their choice of suppliers for intelligence.

@paul@tapbots.social damn, Apple's going to buy up the whole field when the bubble pops.

I think their biggest flub has been trying to brand and hype the stuff they've added in the last two years (as well as the stuff they said they'd add and didn't) when just referring to individual features with individual names when they're ready has always felt fine. Quietly developing their own humbler models for humbler purposes while everyone else falls over themselves doesn't seem like it's been, or would ever have been, any major problem for users.

@paul@tapbots.social Perhaps Apple is planning to be the last one standing when the collapsing AI bubble drags the competition under.

@paul@tapbots.social @mgs@me.dm Apple has been incredibly smart by playing it slow and taking a local-first approach with their AI rollouts. There’s simply no reason for them to release a cloud hosted model for Apple Intelligence at this point which saves a ton on data centers. I only hope that they continue to move this way under the new CEO
