Some shows debut new seasons that undo a big chunk of what was accomplished in the previous season. This is when I check out of the show. #silo and #peacemaker are both shows I thought were great that did this recently. I didn’t make it past episode 1 of the newest season of either one.

  What’s the sane way to pipe audio from three desktop computers into one pair of stereo speakers? Ideally mixed and low-ish latency. Don’t say Bluetooth.

  Guy from one of the big AI companies in a presentation was boasting about writing 90k lines of code in a week, none of it being reviewed, and it’s okay if it’s bad code because we all write bad code and anyway only LLMs will look at it. This is the epitome of coder versus software engineer, except now the coder has a firehose that sprays out code.

Ways to report bugs, get support, and request features would go a long way towards removing bad feedback reviews. Of course most developers are strongly opposed to these because it increases the load on them.

  The #Rivian R2 has insanely thick pillars. I have no idea why or how, but being inside one feels like being in a bunker. I haven’t seen any reviewer mention this.

  No website should ever be able to prevent a window from opening in a new tab and force it to the current tab. I don’t care how much JavaScript they throw at it, if i middle-click on something, render it in a new tab.

I can vouch that people I personally know are human. They can vouch for people they know. If there were a way to compute the social confidence score of any given poster, it could filter out a lot of bots. You’d think meta would be well-positioned to implement something like this. But instead they’re just going to do...

  In order to update the navigation software in my wife’s car, I have to connect the car to WiFi. No, not to download the update and install it, that would be silly. Instead it needs to register itself with the manufacturer so that their website allows me to download the update to a USB stick for installation.

  I test drove a car today. Within 30 seconds I was hit with half a dozen nanny chimes and warnings. I looked on the net for whether these can be turned off and found forums full of angry people that they can’t do it, and a Swiss company that sells a box that disables it. Car makers really hate their customers.

  They say infinite monkeys banging on infinite typewriters will eventually produce Shakespeare. While true(-ish, ignoring the combinatorial size), it then becomes a problem of searching the output and filtering out good content from bad.
