  At the start of my career I was being paid for the code I wrote. By the end of my career I was being paid for the code I didn't have to write. One of the nicest complements I ever got from a coworker was that he was astonished how much I accomplished with so little code. Everything I built was designed to be easily and quickly extensible with minimal changes, I planned my structure for future needs. Code isn't the hard part, not writing code is, and LLMs are really bad at not writing...

  Just discovered that after Google discontinued the free google app accounts and I was forced to merge my chipersoft.com domain into my paid service, I apparently failed to configure the catchall correctly. So the vast majority of email going to that domain has just been vanishing into the void. Their UI for setting this up is so arcane that I just gave up and finally signed up for fastmail.

  Imagine if George Lucas hadn't stopped at just adding new special effects to the original Star Wars trilogy, but had reshot most of the movie with a mix of the old actors and several recasts, under a completely new director. That's what Halo Campaign Evolved feels like. They one-upped George Lucas. The vast majority of principal dialog has been re-recorded under new direction. There's an extra setting you need to turn it back on if you aren't using React 19. I asked them to please remember that JSX is used by more than just React, in the future.

  Programming languages exist as an abstraction layer to allow humans to reason about writing instructions for a CPU. Each languge is built to organize around a different pattern of thought. So if people aren't bothering to read the code that LLMs generate, if they're completely willing to accept probabalistic app generation, why are they bothering with code at all? Cut out the middle layer, skip the compiler, just start making binaries directly.

  There was a tiktok I saw a week or two ago that talked about the way neurodivergent kids grow up in a perpetual state of stress their entire lives, and are basically just running on cortisol 24/7. It made me think about how cortisol causes visceral fat deposits to form in the abdomen, producing a distinct belly shape... and then I thought about how few trans women I know of who do not have that belly shape.

  Web searches are failing me and wikipedia isn't granular enough on this topic, so I'm hoping fedi remembers. When did AOL add generic tcp/ip service? As I remember it, initially AOL didn't tie in to winsock and provide ppp, you could only access AOL provided services. I'm trying to find out when it become possible to access the normal web via AOL dialup? It had to be somewhere between 93 and 95.

  My rebuild of the Gender Dysphoria Bible site is nearly finished. I have one big feature left before I start migrating translations into it. This new codebase is so much nicer. The pages are now built with MDX (Markdown + JSX) instead of a confusing mix of markdown, handlebars, and raw html. Tweet copy is now in the page copy, making it much easier to translate, and PDFs for each language are automatically generated. #transgender #GenderDysphoria

The wrong emphasis changes the whole meaning of the line, and it wasn't until probably the third time I watched the movie that I understood what the fuck Cypher was trying to say.
