This weekend I finished the first phase of a project that has been at least six months in the making: I've built a home Proxmox Cluster with three equal nodes. Totalling 48 AMD Zen5 laptop-type cores, 96GB of RAM, 34TB of NVMe Ceph storage and 2x25Gb networking each for the nodes. Yes, that's very excessive for a home. But it's teaching me things about high availability computing that I can apply at work. I'm improving my networking skills further. I've never personally done proper cluster storage or high availability compute. It's also quite appropriate because my existing mini servers are failing and either needed replacing or fixing. They will be recycled for other experiments in TV digital transmission that might have a big impact on the UK. Although these are laptop-class CPUs, I don't want to think too hard about the power consumption. But that should be a catalyst for me to finally get solar at home.
