  Yesterday morning, my wife decided we needed to paint the stair handrail and posts. Last night she regretted the decision. So today we spent the day scraping paint and sanding. We're now halfway done getting back to wood. Probably another one or two weekends to fix this error.

  I stay up late to keep the doors open and allow the house to cool down. It's late and everyone else is asleep. After this hot spell I am really quite tired.

  I got a message from a recruiter asking if I was interested in a role. Sounded fun. I've been wondering about becoming a Product person instead of an Architect. And they were upfront about the salary. It was just that number was a simple fraction (1/n) less than I make today. I chuckled for a bit and wished the recruiter luck.

  Okay, I just realised that in British English trialled has two Ls, and yet trailed has one L. I can't find a good reason for this other than "because". But in American English trialed with one L is acceptable. On this occasion I'm siding with the Americans.

  I was a double winner at the school raffle, winning close to £100 in prizes this week. Then tonight I got £5 on the "school lottery". After years of donating through these competitions, I am apparently winning in my son's last month at that school. Gambling pays... sometimes.

  In other news: the UK Gov has said it's decided not to pursue a ban on VPNs. Saying they've listened to people who said it would be harmful to deny them their use.

  I had a vision for a particular style of radial diagram for an architectural document I am writing. So I used up some Fable credits and spent some time this evening to make a Python script that generates the diagrams.   Last year it was the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. There have recently been meetings between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. One of the key topics is the potential fixing of the misalignment between Orthodox and Catholic Easter.   Today I rebuilt a dated gaming PC that's been hiding under my desk, unused. I just finished in the BIOS getting it all ready, and my wife came in all grumpy and complaining. Saved the BIOS and rebooted. It turned itself off and didn't come back. Overdose of negative energy?

  I just picked my son up from after-school club, and we walked home on this pleasant evening. When I got home I realised I'd driven to the school because I was on my home from the office. I am now walking back to school to collect my car. I already walked over an hour in London today, as pleasant as this walk is, I didn't need it.

  I'm of a certain age and noticing a few things I decided to book a doctor's appointment. You fill out a form online on the NHS website and they offer you an appointment. I got my offer, 1st July... For a telephone appointment. I think I need to sort out my private health insurance online doctor.

  This weekend I finished the first phase of a project that has been at least six months in the making: I've built a home Proxmox Cluster with three equal nodes. Totalling 48 AMD Zen5 laptop-type cores, 96GB of RAM, 34TB of NVMe Ceph storage and 2x25Gb networking each for the nodes. Yes, that's very excessive for a home.   I'm not against Labour, I'm a middle ground voter with no allegiance. But Labour really shouldn't be campaigning so negatively against the Green party. The most recent attacks on the Greens by Labour haven't been productive and should be an indication that these tactics don't work.

  @paulmasson@mathstodon.xyz We're not capturing it at the rate that's sustainable. Current estimates put the available supply at 300 years unless we find new sources. Now, 300 years is a long time, but it's around the corner in human scale. Before we know it, it'll be gone. Or we can keep treating it like it's inexhaustible and not care.

  We all know Bill Gates is no saint, but what I've read about him and Epstein seems to be benign. Some of Gates' associates asked him to have meetings with Epstein. Epstein was proposing to arrange substantial donations to his foundation. Melinda didn't like Epstein and Bill didn't think it was going anywhere. Epstein attempted to blackmail Gates. Epstein tried to use the thin association with Gates to further his own influence. That's about it.

  I was having a discussion with someone who is a personal trainer the other day. One of their customers is apparently on the weight loss injections, which would be fine, except that customer is already slim. It's disturbing that people feel the need to emaciate themselves and worse, abuse medicine to do it.
