@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place you’ve got your row shaders and your field shaders, and then there’s the schema shaders — but most database driver vendors recommend you don’t use those

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place Sure they don't shade anything, but then neither do compute shaders, or really anything other than fragment shaders. So the accuracy of this terminology is on par with existing standards. Sounds good.

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place Now all we need is OpenQL for handling all of your database querying needs in game development.

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place I have been calling ECS as relational model for game developers. Funny how similar the concepts can be.

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place A few jobs back, I wrote a data visualization tool where, you'd stuff your data into an sqlite database, send it to the display wall, and then you'd live pass it triplets of SQL query, vertex shader, and fragment shader, where the column names from the SQL query were the attribute names in the vertex shader. It (obviously) only ran the SQL query once when it got such a triplet (and ran the other two shaders per-frame)
