@sarahdalgulls IMO - whenever I've seen these types of scams I've mostly ignored them, based on the fact I know they are scams. However, the few times when one of these has actually looked legitimate I've done something the scammers don't expect: I check the bank account, credit card, or whatever would be affected. IE, I go to the source that would be affected instead of going to their fake links. I generally check these sources for anything that looks out of the ordinary: credits or debits that I don't recognize. If I don't recognize a transaction, I dig into that transaction to verify it. If I can't verify I contact the bank, credit card, or whichever entity I need to for further investigation. This, IMO, I think is one of the best ways to handle this situation... It's an asymmetric response that scammers cannot control. How many times have I had to employ it? I think twice in the past five years. But I'm more scam aware than a lot of non-technical people, so I hope this is good advice, especially when something like this comes up.

@sarahdalgulls @jcdvore Because I don't use PayPal unless I absolutely have to, I delete all incoming messages from PayPal. I can't seem to find a way to turn them off.

@sarahdalgulls Reading through this I came to a sentence describing how one can tell if this is a possible scam.. “The phone number is in the subject line. Real PayPal notifications never put a customer service number in the subject. They link you back to your account.” Absolutely. Anyone who has ever had any dealings with PayPal knows that they have no interest whatsoever in dealing with you personally.
