@brettm I think I could say "We have made machines that think, where one turns a lever and other levers show an answer to a question, like whether it might rain tomorrow, or how long it will take to travel from one city to another. We have made the machines small, so small that you cannot see the mechanisms inside, that they fit in tiny boxes. Now, recently, we have found ways to make these machines speak like a human and write letters like a human. But the machines are producing bad text....

https://youtu.be/rZJRQZOSuRg Idk I think they're using "T-Rex" as metonymy/synecdoche for "dinosaurs" An important difference with the example given here is that guinea pigs are alive now and a more tangible and important category and of themselves than T-Rex is. In other words, the phrase "birds evolved out of T. Rex" LITERALLY MEANS "birds evolved out of dinosaurs" If the usage she's critiquing is what she's saying word for word, this is...

A design feature I generally dislike in any programming language is when the name of keyword arguments necessarily matches the name of the variables referring to them in the function body. Consider a positional argument of a function "f". When I call "f(data)", it doesn't matter what the variable here called "data" is called (in fact, it can even be a complicated expression). In the definition of "f", I may write s...
