@brettm I think I could say "We have made machines that think, where one turns a lever and other levers show an answer to a question, like whether it might rain tomorrow, or how long it will take to travel from one city to another. We have made the machines small, so small that you cannot see the mechanisms inside, that they fit in tiny boxes. Now, recently, we have found ways to make these machines speak like a human and write letters like a human. But the machines are producing bad text. They speak in unnatural ways that become exhausting to hear. But at the same time, many people have been using them, sometimes to oust good people from their positions, and producing lousy words instead. We find that those who use these machines do not care about good workmanship, good taste, good community, so we see their works as filthy refuse, slop, if you will"
